Professor Williams has over 15 years’ experience in pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical analysis. He is an Associate Professor and Reader in Theoretical Biophysics within the Laboratory of Biophysics and Surface Analysis (LBSA) at the University of Nottingham.
Professor Williams has acted as an expert consultant in patent litigation matters in the USA and Canada. His pharmaceutical analysis expertise includes the application of imaging and confocal microscopy technologies to study complex systems.
He obtained both his bachelor degree in Pharmacy and PhD from the University of Nottingham and has authored over 150 peer-reviewed publications, reviews and book chapters in the field of molecular simulation and biomaterial characterisation.
In 2000, he was one of only 13 academics in the UK to be awarded the five-year EPSRC Research Fellowship. He is currently an EPSRC panel member.
Professor Williams has received a number of awards including the GSK International Achievement award, given jointly to the LBSA and Molecular Profiles in 2003. Notably in 2004, in recognition of “distinction in science related to pharmacy”, he became a Fellow of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain. Aged just 37 at the time, this made him one of the youngest pharmacists ever to be made a Fellow.
In 2007 he was recognised as part of both Molecular Profiles and the University’s Pharmacy School with the honour of two Queen’s Awards for Enterprise in the category of Innovation – the highest UK business accolade.
